Hell Raising Habit
03:43
|
|||
Little bit of wine, when I'm drinking to my health
Little bit of whisky, when I just can't help myself
It's just one drink, yeah that ain't never been a thing
When it's 2am I'll be running like a Chevy up and down that street
Got a Hell Raising Habit, I can't shake
Gets a little harder and harder every day
Oh and most times a little praying is the most I can manage
Got a hell raising habit to shake
Got an empty wallet, Lord I just can't buy no dreams
Got a big ol' bed, that ain't ever seen a night of sleep
I should just go on home, 'cause I always wish I did
Instead of running 'round town trying to find every kind of trouble there is
Got a Hell Raising Habit, I can't shake
Gets a little harder and harder every day
Oh and most times a little praying is the most I can manage
Got a hell raising habit to shake
Little bit of danger and a little bit of fire
And a whole lot of third degree
Little bit of sparking when I'm a live wire
And a whole lot of thunder when lightning strikes me
Got a Hell Raising Habit, I can't shake
Gets a little harder and harder every day
Oh and most times a little praying is the most I can manage
Got a hell raising habit to shake

Can't Stay Here
04:04
|
|||
I can’t stay here, I can’t stay here
I’m lone and tired I can’t stay here
I’ll run to the well, hell I’ll get that drink
The one that fills, up all that I need
Of getting where to go, yeah where to go
Although I know the taste of laying like still bones
It’s that taste that feeds my spin and goes
I'll ride them trains right to the end of the line
With pain in my eyes and words in my teeth
Of getting where to go, yeah where to go
Well I don’t know, just where to go
Hell I don’t know, well I’ll get up and go
Can’t stay here, I can’t stay here
I’m lone and tired I can’t stay here
I run to the well, hell I’ll get that drink
With pain in my eyes and words in my teeth
Of getting where to go, yeah where to go

Shine
04:03
|
|||
When you walked right into this old bar room
And your blue eyes just wandered into mine
I could feel a little voltage running through my bones
For the first time, in a long long time
We were dancing
In the twilight
Just wishing that the last bit of daylight
Would take its time
Saying, go down slow
And just stay a while
Won’t you shine a bit longer
In the twilight
Well you say you don’t wanna bit you gotta go
Honey, believe me I know the feeling
Cause it seems all I’m ever doing these days anymore
Is just falling in love and then leaving
We were dancing
In the twilight
Just wishing that the last bit of daylight
Would take its time
Saying, go down slow
And just stay a while
Won’t you shine a bit longer
In the twilight

Second Hand
04:33
|
|||
I’ve been shooting myself in the foot again
And I’m losing track of all my friends
A big ol’ hole that I’m stuck down in
I admit that I have dug
As the night comes around it’s all the same
I’m stuck inside feeling insane
Three short blocks out to the saloon
But my pockets just say no
Now my teeth are hurting and it’s hard to breath
And I spend my time on all the wrong things
Trouble with that is just sometimes
It can all feel so damn good
They say time keeps up with the best of them
I’m soon to be tied to the second hand
But it’s all the while with talk like that
That’s got me feeling, like it’s harder to stand
Well the money here it’s hard to find
Goes as far as to say it ain’t no good
Doesn’t go as far as I thought it should
At least to get me out of here
While the pretty little thing that’s wrapped around me
And telling me all that I need to hear
I guess that I’m not going nowhere
But the truth will come out soon
I know time keeps up with the best of them
I’m soon to be tied to the second hand
But it’s all the while with talk like that
That’s got me feeling, like it’s harder to stand
It’s just time keeps up with the best of them
I’m soon to be tied to the second hand
But it’s all the while with talk like that
That’s got me feeling, like it’s harder to stand

Think I'll Just Sing
04:17
|
|||
I’ve been driving all week and there ain’t no time for sleep
Out here singing these songs on the road
For them worn down drunks in these worn down bars
And damn it if I ain’t still broke
Living in a van playing one night stands
Sure makes a man feel lonesome and blue
But I just keep between the lines and I keep on making miles
Heaven knows why I do it, but I do
I’d settle down if I could, but there ain’t much else I can do
Cause I can’t work no nine to five and say I guess that’s just life
Punch in and follow the rules
So I think I’ll just sing another song
Have another drink, do it all night long
Do it all again, in some other town
Lord and when I die, I believe I’ll settle on down
It’s a lot of blood sweat and beer just to get me here
Writing all these songs that I sing
I spent my whole life time just beating on these strings
Pickin’ guitar till my fingers bleed
Smoking away my life getting drunk out every night
Dancing holes in the bottoms of my boots
But I just rail a couple lines and I wake up with a smile
Heaven knows how I do it but I do
I’d settle down if I could, but there ain’t much else I can do
Cause I can’t wake up at six and be in bed by nine
Sit in traffic for an hour or two
Yeah I think I’ll just sing another song
Have another drink, do it all night long
Do it all again, in some other town
Lord and when I die, I believe I’ll settle on down
I think I’ll just sing another song
Have another drink, do it all night long
Do it all again, in some other town
Lord and when I die, yeah when I die
I believe I’ll settle on down

Turn Me Loose
03:44
|
|||
Sometimes you hear them, sometimes you don’t
Sometimes that love letter that you wrote
Comes out sounding more like a joke
But it’s at that point when I decide that I need to change what’s inside
Seek to find and get back to a place where we all started from
Sometimes, I get a little tired
Between the repetition of chucking wood just to keep someone else's fire hot
If I could just put down that ax let it be live inside my own melody
Some might find it strange, but they won’t be at your grave
Just turn me loose on the road, singing songs with my friends
Fill my glass up to the top, don’t know if I'll be back here again
I’ll stay until closing time, then after hours sleep ain’t worth a dime
That’s where melodies turn to songs
Sometimes, I find myself alone
Then I’ll close my eyes and let old memories come and flood my mind
Then I’ll pick a few in three quarter time, think about those big ol’ skies
Maybe up in Montana or Louisiana, that’s about when I get that feeling again
So turn me loose on the road, singing songs with my friends
Fill my glass up to the top, don’t know if I'll be back here again
I’ll stay until closing time, then after hours it ain’t worth a dime
That’s where melodies turn to songs
And sometimes, when I can’t go on
I’ll just turn back to the words last time I said that I was through
Then I pick myself up, tune my strings up
Remember how good it feels, to sing a song at 3am next to a fire under the moon
So just turn me loose on the road, singing songs with my friends
Fill my glass up to the top, don’t know if I'll be back here again
I’ll stay until closing time, then after hours sleep ain’t worth a dime
That’s where melodies turn to songs
I’m telling you it’s a full time job, just turning all the melodies into songs

Same Old Waltz
04:27
|
|||
What the hell are we doing here
It’s always the same always ends up in tears
We love a little then it’s just broken hearts
We ought to know by now that we ought to not start
Cause it will never feel like the first time again
We keep on falling short but we just keep on falling in
And it only leaves wanting more, it’s never enough
Cause it’ll never feel like the first time we fell in love
So come on and break my heart and I’ll break yours
Honey don’t you worry that’s what whisky is for
It seems like a little heartache is just what we need
Well with the way we’ve been acting what else could it be
Cause it will never feel like the first time again
We keep on falling short but we just keep on falling in
And it only leaves wanting more, it’s never enough
Cause it’ll never feel like the first time we fell in love
It’ll never feel like the first time we fell in love
It’ll never feel like the first time we fell in love

Fools
04:18
|
|||
Did that sun came out today,
I wouldn’t have known if the moon hadn’t told me
With the shine off its face,
Leading me down these wandering roads
It’s not worth packing it in,
Cause I swore the end never existed,
For if I did,
There’d be no reason to be persistent
But even love has a thing that’ll fool you,
It’ll step right in and then through you,
And when that does it should clue you,
To find another side of that thing called love
Somewhere in-between,
Of me thinking all of these things,
I struggled with,
So many endless proceedings
That led me all the way to the foot
Of a statue without underlying form
that had one or two things offered up
But I refused to take either of them
Cause even love has a thing that’ll fool you,
It’ll step right in and then through you,
And when that does it should clue you,
To find another side of that thing called love
Now I walk a way
That I keep asking why
That’s a question that,
I’ll live with until I…
Why is that love has a thing that’ll fool you,
It’ll step right in and then through you,
And when that does it should clue you,
To find another side of that thing called love

Rapid City Nights
03:36
|
|||
Leaving this time, ain’t gonna be so easy
Now that I found my Madeline
Wish I could stay, wish she didn’t have to go
Wish these Rapid City nights would slow down
If time were on our side
I would trade all the miles
Those neon lights and highway signs
And be with Madeline tonight
Yeah she puts the color, into all them Black Hills
She puts that blue into a sky of fire
If that river don’t flow, it’s only cause it knows
There ain’t no place left to roam now
If time were on our side
I would trade all the miles
Those neon lights and highway signs
And be with Madeline tonight
This highway ain’t no place for the loving kind
This ramblin always seems to have it’s price
But I would hang my hat, on your great plain skies
Hang em on them stars tonight
If time were on our side
I would trade all the miles
Those neon lights and highway signs
And be with Madeline tonight
And I’d be with Madeline tonight
I’d be with my Madeline tonight

At The Table (Revisited)
06:56
|
|||
If I could only hear your voice I’d know exactly where you are
And I’d leave it at the table with all them empty jars
Cause you were a good friend at a time
A time when I needed you most
Now you only recognize me as this ghost
You only recognize me as this ghost
Jumping off the edge
Without a doubt in your mind
About whether you were going to fly
Or just buy some time
But when the bottom came into sight
You decided to shoot out the lights
Just watched it all go dark and stayed alive
You just watched it all go dark to stay alive
Word came around that you made it to the other side
And you thought someone would have asked
what exactly did you find
But when the conversation never came
You were just stuck with all them scars
Still wondering where you were and where you are
I’m still wondering where you were and where you are
Sometimes still at night
I’ll get drunk and I’ll play with knives
And just listen to the wind cry and wait for the morning light
And it’s right in those times that you’ll visit me within a smile
And I know you’re at the table for awhile
You’re right there at the table for awhile
Yeah you’re right there at the table for awhile

Smith & Tegio Santa Cruz, California
“Although they’ve lived the majority of their lives in San Diego and Santa Cruz, Smith & Tegio have absorbed a lot of the
sounds from the rural 95% of the state. Their music would feel as natural in a juke joint in Mississippi as it does in a roadside tavern in California’s Central Valley. ”
